Monopoly Revolution
Will Monopoly Revolution create a whole new
generation of Monopoly players? It certainly seems that it will. One of the common complaints about the old format
of the game was that one game could last forever. This isn't the case with the new game. Slight changes have been
introduced which will speed up play.
So how does
MONOPOLY Revolution differ from the old game? It was released to celebrate the
75th anniversary of the game so you can expect some changes. The board has been revolutionized and is now round in
shape as opposed to square. Most people found it was nicer this way and much better for people sitting around a
table.
It is divided into four zones. The Chance and Community Chest
cards have been combined and a new twist added which adds an extra dimension to the game. When you land on a zone
space, you can either give everyone else in that Zone a Chance or you can put a property up for auction by moving
to the next unoccupied property. If all the properties have already been bought you can force a deal i.e. you may
swap a property.

The prices of various properties have been increased to reflect
current values and now when you land on a property you have the option to buy it or auction it. Monopoly
Revolution allows you to swap properties. These combined changes are a huge time saver. The
familiar silver pieces like the top hat and car have been replaced by plastic movers and are now in the shape of a
hat, shoe, dog, car, iron and ship. The Chance and Community Chest cards have been combined and a new twist added
which adds an extra dimension to the game.
Monopoly Revolution Board Game
The biggest change is probably the fact that the cash has
disappeared. Monopoly money is no more. Now you have a debit card but you still need to keep track of your finances
or you could find yourself bankrupt. The change from cash to card has to be the least favorite of the changes made
in this new game. Most reviewers commented on the fact that the old Monopoly money had an educational value in that
it taught people how to count. Counting out and keeping up with the money was part of the fun of the old game as
was landing on the set of jail free space and collecting lots of cash.
Now, there is a central hub that helps to keep track of your
money. You swipe your debit card to pay for a transaction. This plays sounds and music and requires 3AA batteries
which are not included. The sound of the door slamming when you land on jail is a cool touch. The jury appears to
be divided on whether
MONOPOLY Revolution is better than the more traditional Monopoly but most appear to think it is a great
game.
